Chapter Officers 2008 Pres. Carriere--1st VP--Depoy--2nd VP--Hamilton Secy--Reid---Treas---Carroll THE PAST: MARCH CAMPOUT Our March campout was held at Hillsborough River State Park in Thonotosassa, with Sharilyn Fluegge serving as our wagonmaster. We had this campout at the beginning of the month so that we could go to the annual Strawberry Festival in Plant City. Friday a lot of the members went over to the festival, they enjoyed the many crafts, and gift items that they had there, the pig races, which are always fun to watch, and of course you had to have their famous strawberry shortcake. It rained on Friday night so we had to postpone our snacks, many stayed in their campers, and some played cards. Saturday morning we had a community breakfast, followed by our club meeting. Then a bunch of us went to a big 75% off sale at the State Park gift shop. Many found some good buys. Saturday afternoon, a few more went over to the festival, the feature entertainer of the day was Billy Ray Cyress, he put on a good show. Saturday night we all sat by Sharilyn's for some delicious assorted pies. Sunday morning we all enjoyed bagels with cream cheese, and orange juice. Joy Mattheus won the 50/50. Twelve units attending: Carriere, Carroll, Cox, Fluegge, Hamilton, Keene, Kruger, Mattheus, Neilson, Reid, Scott, Weigle APRIL CAMPOUT: Our April campout found us returning to Lake Kissimmee State Park in Lake Wales with the Carriere's serving as wagonmasters. Friday evening a few members went out to eat at the local restaurant near the park. Later our wagonmasters Lew & Diane had some delicious desserts at their camper, while we all sat by a nice campfire. Saturday a few went over to the Cow Camp which is a re-enactment of the old west. Later in the afternoon we played some trivia games, and also bean bag baseball. John & Linda's grandson Jonathan had a great time, he got a lot of hits and home runs. Wilma & James Carroll roasted a turkey for our Saturday evening meal, and everyone brought side dishes to go with the turkey. Thank you Wilma & James for another great meal. Sunday morning we had Diane's delicious biscuits, orange juice, and coffee. We all saw some wildlife there like sandhill cranes, turkey, and early in the morning we did see some deer, although they were not as tame as last year. it could have been due to the control fires that were burning near-by. The cranes were very friendly, they came right up to you and ate out of your hand, even tried to join us for dinner when our food wasn't being watched, right John R. The 50/50 was won by June Keene. We all wish him well, and hope that he and Martha will be back camping with us real soon.
